American Exceptionalism–Entrepreneurism

I had lunch last week with a CPA acquaintance of mine, Bob Cohen. When we sat down I immediately started talking about my passion for entrepreneurism. I said, “You know I honestly think we can save the world if only we can create more entrepreneurs everywhere.”

Bob immediately responded, “You mean the world needs America!” I was stunned at that insight, but he went on. He had recently been traveling internationally, and he noticed the stark difference in attitudes abroad about entrepreneurship. Bob said, “America was founded on the ideas of personal independence and self reliance, and that is still what attracts most immigrants here. No other nation is like that. The world needs American leadership in entrepreneurship.”

I could not agree more. Entrepreneurism–especially the fiercely independent, American brand of entrepreneurism–is needed everywhere.
