It’s true. Many business lawyers lose sight of the goal: Get the deal\u00a0done! On one client’s recent contract negotiations I did one back and forth\u00a0with opposing counsel. It was clear we had already landed\u00a0in a world of diminishing returns over adjusting the language. It was no longer about contract\u00a0law, but about\u00a0advising\u00a0my client on the\u00a0residual risks in the contract–i.e. a business decision was needed. Although the contract was not perfect for us, we jointly decided to move forward\u00a0so the other side could feel like they had won something and my client could get to work on the contract they wanted. My client\u00a0thanked me for understanding what was important and helping them to move more quickly toward that goal.<\/p>\n
